INTRODUCTION
ISNT with its motto of better Quality of Life through NDT strives to promote NDE science and technology and serve NDT professionals nationally and internationally through certification, publications and conferencing.
Introduction
to ISNT
ISNT is the main professional body in India to cater to the needs of the
NDT community in the country. Formed in July 1972, ISNT has evolved from
adolescence to a mature Society. ISNT as on 1st June 2006, has 19 Chapters
and over 6000 members spread all over the country.
The objectives of ISNT include, but not limited to the following:
To
further the cause of Science and Technology of NDT. |

To
help Indian industry use the results of Research and Development in
NDT. |
|
To
organize courses/workshops/seminars in various fields of NDT and to
create forums where exchange of information and ideas among the NDT
practitioners and professionals belonging to other fields in industry
take place. |
|
To
promote the use of approved International and National standards in
NDT and related areas by Indian industry in consultation with the
Bureau of Indian Standards. |
|
To
help prepare new Indian standards and update old standards in NDT. |
|
To co-ordinate with universities, educational institutions and Government
Bodies for initiating new projects on the development of various NDT
techniques. |

To
interact and co-ordinate with other National NDT societies and associations
from other countries. |
|
To
conduct training and certification courses in NDT techniques. |
|
To
propagate the culture of quality, to promote NDE for enhanced production
and reliability, and to accelerate the introduction of new NDT methods
with confidence. |

| To aid Indian industries to compete in the world market and export a diverse range of engineering products of proven quality. |
History
of Indian Society for Non-Destructive Testing - (ISNT)
| ISNT was established in 1974 having its Head Office at Calcutta. The Founder members consisted of Shri K.Balaramamoorthy, BARC and many staff members of National Test House, Calcutta. | |
| Almost every year, National seminar is conducted in different parts of the Country. | |
| It has 20 chapters located throughout the Country. | |
| ISNT has conducted World Conference in New Delhi during December 1996. | |
| It has been selected by American Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) for conducting ASNT Level-III examination in India. | |
| ASNT Level-III examinations are conducted annually at different locations in India. | |
| NCB is part of ISNT looking after conducting ISNT and ASNT courses and examinations such as Level-I, Level-II and Level-III. Many candidates have successfully obtained corresponding certificates for abovementioned examinations. | |
| QUNEST is a charity group as part of ISNT whose assignments are concentrated on Research and Development if NDT activities, Promotion of NDT Science and Technology, Interaction with Counterpart societies in other countries, etc. | |

ISNT also encourages members by providing various awards such as Lifetime
Achievement Award, Best Paper Award, Best Chapter Award, R & d National
NDT Award, Industrial Applications National NDT Award, etc. Many of
these awards are sponsored by various organizations. |

ISNT Vadodara Chapter
| ISNT Vadodara Chapter was established in November 1981. The inauguration of chapter was presided by Shri D.C.Gami, the then Managing Director of Gujarat State Fertilizers Company Ltd. He had actively encouraged Vadodara Chapter. | |
| Vadodara Chapter has been actively promoted and its activities are sponsored by various organizations such as Gujarat State Fertilizers Company Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Gujarat Electricity Board, M/s. Jyoti Limited, IPCL, etc. | |
| It had conducted regularly courses and examinations in various technologies connected to NDT activities | |
| It had also conducted National seminars in 1999 Vadodara and the regional seminars in 1986 and in 1992. | |
National
Seminars
Apart from the above, the National Seminar on NDT & E became an annual
feature since 1990 to which all NDT professionals look up to. About 300
NDT professionals and 20 manufacturers, suppliers of NDT equipments from
all over the country participate in this event. During this seminar, the
NDT man of the Year (personalities who have made significant contributions
to NDT) Award is given. Best papers published in the national Journal of
NDE are also given awards. Eminent national and international personalities
are also honored for their outstanding contributions to NDT by conferring
the Honorary Fellowship of ISNT.
